Color has a sharpening aspect affecting our senses and intellect simultaneously. Contemporary liquid colors and industrial plywood make my present work possible. Plywood has extraordinary veneers, each specific to what was once a living tree. The liquid hues layered in many transparent colors enhance each woodgrain pattern while contributing to the painting’s luminosity.
Every surface pattern of wood is different. When it is combined with layers of these liquid colors, it becomes something as unique as a fingerprint, encouraging the viewer to stop and look into the work.
Multiple layers of paint and the hard edge bands also create spatial- and color-changing effects in each painting as the viewer moves or the actual light changes revealing another way of seeing that world.
