I work as both a painter and sculptor. My practice has been concerned with the exploration of pattern making and repetition. The work has become progressively concerned with process and random difference within uniformity. Series of works are created by repeated combinations of simple elements, with recent works concentrating on the repetition of blocks, squares and circles.
The paintings are created with the use of simple square and circle stencils that are repeated in random combinations. The sculptures consist of painted cardboard cubes that are tied together with yarn enabling the construction of limitless arrangements.
Repetition leads to inevitable imperfection as the systems break down, yet the viewer is able to ignore the irregularities in order to view the entirety of the work.
