István Halmi-Horváth
Over the years, the organic inspiration of my early works gave way to a geometric idiom, and the monochrome of my realistic pictures (which also represented architectural floor plans) was slowly replaced by a preference for concreteness and color. I became interested in additive structures in which the visual representation of objectivity meets with the optical effect of the color stuctures I use.
My works contrast the physical elements of concrete painting with the playfulness of the branch of geometric painting that concerns itself with optical phenomena. I seek to produce a taut, harmonic representation of the encounter between different levels of reality.
