Craig Stockwell
The purpose of my work is to find engagement, to be involved in the conversation. Through engagement in process one bumps against things. It is here that relations are encountered and engaged. The ethics and morals of small decisions made vivid by their uselessness. The uselessness of art as object magnifies its use as a source of discourse. All of my paintings and drawings begin with a circle-based “grid” that is developed using initial chance procedures that then lead to a settled geometric armature.
I work across a hall from Mom’s Tattoo Parlor. Recently, I overheard this conversation:
“What does he do in there all day?”
“He paints circles.”
